Halloween Happenings with Sèphera Girón

No automatic alt text available.

I have been invited to Vaughan Fan Con!

I will have a table where I will be reading tarot cards and selling Weird Tales of Terror! I'm giving a presentation on Ghost Hunting at 1 pm on October 21.

On October 26, we are officially launching Group Hex 2! We are also celebrating Halloween with Drag Queens and readings at Glad Day Bookstore. The event is FREE so please come on by and listen to us creep you out for an hour or so.

Hot off the press just in time for Halloween, Group Hex 2 is finally here!

On October 27, Good Job Sally, a Toronto dance company, is holding a fund-raiser at BDX studios in Toronto at 819 Bloor Street at Yonge and Bloor. The event is FREE but is pay what you can! Since interest has already been huge, they are running two shows that night.

The show itself is a story with a few pieces choreographed by Dorian Grant and performed by members of the Good Job Sally Dance Company. There will be some raffles to help with fund-raising. Although they are performing this night a short show, the goal is to raise money to mount a full show at a proper theatre as they did last year to rave reviews.

On October 27th, get Grimm with Good Job Sally as they welcome you to their twisted fairy tale party. Find out what happens when a trickster Fairy, sly Wolf, “charming” Prince and unsuspecting Beauty get together for an evening of mystery, mischief and… murder!

Kick off Halloween weekend with your favourite creepy, crawly dance ensemble as we perform an original mini-show just for you! With a special guest performance by the Giggle Queens (https://www.instagram.com/giggle_queens/)

Friday, October 27th
Doors open at 7pm
Show starts at 7:30pm

So there you have it! Readings and dancing from some of Toronto's finest talent! Come on out or if you can't come out, consider buying a copy of Group Hex 2 and donating a buck or two to Good Job Sally!

We managed one last quick trip up to Canada's Wonderland last week before the season is over.
One day I'll get the nerve up to apply to be a tarot reader at their Halloween Haunt attractions.

The line for Vortex was too long....

Nothing says "scary" like riding Leviathan!

About Artistic Director/Choreographer Dorian Grant
Dorian Grant has been actively training in dance for 22 years. He has also been teaching and choreographing for 7 years.
It started at the age of 3 when he began tap dancing. This was after his mother caught him attempting to re-enact Shirley Temple movies on the living room coffee table. He spent much of his childhood training and competing in dance studios for different competitions around the Greater Toronto Area and the United States.
At 14, he was accepted into Cawthra Park Secondary School’s Regional Arts Program for Dance. This school allowed him to train in modern, ballet and jazz as well as perform at many venues and events both in Canada and the USA. During this four-year period, he acted in many community theatre shows with Meadowvale Music Theatre where he received his first opportunity as a choreographer’s assistant.
Over the years, he has performed on live television (TSN, Roger’s, YTV), and at various venues in North America (St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, Liberty Grande, and Disney World).
Dorian has trained with high profile choreographers and choreographed hip-hop, tap and musical theatre shows/classes for all ages including the Fringe Kids Festival, After-School programs, and various local theatre productions.

October Events

On October 3, I'll be attending Eeriecon for one day. This is in Buffalo.

October 8 6:30  Brentwood Library
I'll be presenting So You Want to Be a Horror Writer?

October 15 6:30 Merrill Library
Horror Writers Association Ontario Chapter will give a presentation on horror writing.

October 17 and 18 Horror-Rama
You'll find me at the HWA ONT booth both days. I'm also on a panel about Stephen King with Mick Garris.

October 22 -25  Stanley Hotel
I'm hoping to attend the horror writers retreat in Colorado! I'm still looking for some side projects to help me achieve this goal!

Over the past month, I had a few adventures.

I was insanely busy at Fan Expo. I had a tarot reading booth in the Horror section. I was on five panels and organized six. They all went very well I thought.

I wasn't sure what to expect with my personal panels but I had magnificent turnouts for both my Ghost Hunting panel and the Tarot101 panel. I let some people share ghost stories at the end of the Ghost Hunting panel. There were some pretty creepy ones! People loved touching the Scorching Ball at my Tarot101 panel even though it was pretty cold that day because of the air-conditioning. But I'm sure I captured enough souls to propel me forward for my next adventures!

"What Scares You?" HWA ONT panel moderated by Richard S. Todd with panelists Sèphera Girón, Nancy Kilpatrick, Suzanne Church, Stephanie Bedwell-Grime, and Brian Clement.

Ariana/Sèphera and Julianne Snow in front of Ariana's tent.

Ariana was swamped with readings for four days! It was great fun!

Author Matt Patterson came by to see Ariana.

Greg Lamberson was autographing at the Medallion Booth!

Tonya Liburd is a happy host at the HWA ONT booth!

"So You Want to Be a Horror Writer?" HWA ONT panel hosted by Richard, with Sèphera, Suzanne, Lou Rera, Nancy Kilpatrick, and Stephanie Bedwell-Grimes.

Bill Snider and Suzanne Church welcome people to the HWA ONT booth.

The Sunday morning corset panel!

HWA had a panel opposite my corset panel but I managed to sneak a pic as they were wrapping up.

On a nice day in September, I went to the Toronto Library to see Richard S. Todd give a presentation about self-publishing. He's a great speaker and the audience seemed to enjoy his ideas.

On a lovely evening in September, I attended the nEvermore launch.

On the last weekend in September, there was a city-wide event called Culture Days. I had my photo taken by the Nuit Blanche exhibitors. It might be on display at Nathan Philip Square during Nuit Blanche but I'll be in Buffalo.
